Her father was a pastry sous chef at the Windows on the World , the legendary restaurant sitting atop the North Tower on the 106th and 107th floors. Today, Elizabeth Wainio's sister, Sarah, visited the site where a memorial honors their heroic actions. Wainio, who was on the board that worked to erect the memorial, said she has a complicated relationship with the site, but she hopes it can be a place for families to feel connected with loved ones and for people to learn about the attack.
"Because of the magnitude of the loss on land in New York, I have a lot of fears that it would be easy for Flight 93 - through storytelling and time - to maybe not be as big of a part of our written history or our recorded history," Wainio said.
