Apple is expected to unveil its first-ever foldable iPhone today, and a report published just hours before the launch event claims that the device will be called the "iPhone Duo."
The last-minute scoop comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and contradicts claims by most other leakers that the device would be called the iPhone Ultra . Though surprising in that sense, it isn't unusual for Apple to use short, three-letter model names. The company already uses Pro, Air, and Neo for its MacBook models, and Air and Pro for its iPhone and iPad models.
Regarding the features of the iPhone Duo, Gurman says it will come with an A20 Pro chip and run apps side by side on the main screen. The device will have two 48MP rear cameras, a 12MP front-facing camera for video calls, and support for the Apple Pencil stylus.
While visible thick creases have been a problem on foldable phones, previous rumors have indicated that Apple has developed a product with minimal to no visible creases on the main screen.
According to Gurman, the base variant is expected to come with 256GB of storage and will be priced at $2,000. Higher-capacity variants may go up to $3,000. Samsung's direct competitor to Apple's passport-style foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 , launched last month and starts at $1,899. Google's Pixel 11 Fold Pro also starts at the same price.
The iPhone Duo will be available in two colors, white and dark blue, and it "will go on sale as early as October," the reporter adds.
Thankfully, we won't have to wait for long to find out whether these rumors about Apple's first foldable are true. The company's "Surprise and Shine" launch event is set to start at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET today. Alongside the iPhone Duo, the event is expected to see Apple unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max , AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12, and the Watch Ultra 4. Amid rising memory costs , Gurman says the company plans to raise prices on its Pro and Pro Max models by $100.
This would not be the first foldable "Duo" phone. The Microsoft Surface Duo came out in 2020, but it fared poorly in our tests and was largely considered a flop .
