EXCLUSIVE: Sony has bought Golf Trip , an R-rated comedy pitch from Mortal Media , which has enlisted Max Searle (upcoming Barbershop ) to pen the script, sources tell Deadline.
Searle is the co-creator and showrunner of Amazon's upcoming Barbershop TV series, building on the comedy film franchise. He was also co-creator and showrunner of the Netflix comedy Neon , previously serving as co-showrunner of Chad Season 2 for Roku and co-EP on Hulu's Only Murders in the Building . He earned Emmy and PGA Award nominations for his work on Murders , with a WGA Award nom for his contributions to FX's Dave . Other credits for Searle include Based on a True Story (Peacock), The Wonder Years (ABC), Lady Dynamite (Netflix), The Ranch (Netflix), and Two and a Half Men (CBS). He's also developing the Marshawn Lynch PI series at Amazon with 3 Arts and Electric Avenue and is repped by CAA, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Ziffren Brittenham.
Mortal Media - founded by former All-Pro NFL center Ryan Kalil and former NBA All-Star Blake Griffin - is behind the Apple TV sci-fi dramedy Hello Tomorrow! starring Billy Crudup and the White Men Can't Jump reboot for 20th/Hulu starring Jack Harlow. Most recently, they launched We Are Osos , their first docuseries with YouTube, following the professional football team in Mexico, which Griffin and Kalil co-own.
