PlayStation has announced it's updating its line of PS5 Pulse headsets with two new models providing improved sound, comfort, and noise-rejection features for chat that filter out background noise.
There will be two new models on offer supporting PS5 consoles and other devices: the Pulse Wireless Headset and the Pulse Edge Wireless Headset.
The former will be out by the end of this year while the latter is slated to come out in early 2027. Release dates, pricing, and pre-order plans will be shared soon, Sony stated in its PlayStation Blog post.
These two new PS5 headsets are said to sport "superior sound quality", and "custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers" are at the heart of that promise. They're apparently better designed to help players pinpoint those quiet but important sound cues, like enemy footsteps. "Larger planar drivers have been added to PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge headsets, creating fuller, deeper bass, while keeping the clean sounds players have enjoyed from Pulse Elite."
The other side to these headsets is the chat functionality, and the new models now feature "AI-enhanced noise rejection in their integrated mics to filter out background noises. Both headsets also feature an updated form factor designed for lasting comfort and durability, with rotating earcups that allow the headsets to lay flat for easier portability."
If you're looking to separate the two headsets, then it does sound like the Pulse Edge headset is the better of the two. It's got additional features like "planar magnetic drivers" that offer deeper and better bass sounds while retaining the more subtle sounds.
The Pulse Edge headset also has "active noise cancellation" and a detachable boom mic, making it a better overall product compared to the standard PS5 Pulse headset. You also get a carrying case included with your purchase.

Also, no mention what so ever on its Frequency range. Really the most important thing to inform someone about, and it's not listed on their site anywhere.
They are nice in their design but honestly I'd recommend the Steel series arctis/nova headphones all day long. All these Pulse headphones are too pricey for the audio quality (I've owned a few). Choosing a Steel Series pair in a similar price range would be a much more satisfying experience - trust! They are also far more comfy for extended gaming sessions.
The Edge version may be more decent in sound quality than the rest but I imagine they'll be priced similar to the Steel Series Nova Pro, which will no doubt be the better deal of the two, going by previous performance of the Pulse headsets.
They look nice and I like the detachable microphone. But I already have 3 Sony headsets that I barely use. Sony's Platinum headset (PS4) is still my favorite. So lightweight and comfortable to wear for extended gaming sessions and pretty good sound quality.
I mostly use wired Beats earbuds instead whenever I do decide to use headphones.
